Experts and patients create guide for treating people with epilepsy.
The National Neurosciences Advisory Group (NNAG)developed a optimal clinical care pathway with other organisations and charities. The pathway highlights the importance of a patient ‘point of contact’ and delivery of epilepsy care closer to home.

MHRA resources give guidance around new restrictions on valproate prescribing (epilepsysociety.org.uk)
MHRA have introduced guidance starting from 31st January 2024 that no-one under the age of 55 – both men and women - should be started on valproate unless two specialists independently agree and document that there is no other safe and effective medication, or that there are compelling reasons why the reproductive risks linked to valproate, do not apply

Funding Crucial Research into Epilepsy
In this article I discuss the research projects in epilepsy at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The three year funding to provide time to develop epilepsy research came from the Leeds Hospital Charity. The funding was successful in developing two highly productive medical doctorate fellowships in brain tumour related epilepsy.

Fitting hospital tribute to Leeds United Fanatic who died suddenly aged just 24
Yorkshire Evening Post article on the opening of the Lee Johnson Suite at Leeds General Infirmary. The Lee’s Smile Charity provided vital funding for video-telemetry equipment. This equipment is important in the diagnosis and epilepsy surgery workup programme.

The Mental health problems going undiagnosed
This article followed an interview for Yorkshire Post about the lack of evidence on the effectiveness of antidepressants in epilepsy leading to some patients experiencing delays in treatment amid concerns of exacerbating seizures.
